Last night was the night I have been eagerly anticipating since I first decided to come to Thailand...the full moon party on Koh Phangan! I prepped myself by taking a four hour long nap after our morning training session so I wouldn't be tired and took everyone's advice whose been to the Full Moon party about not carrying a purse (thanks Jessica!). I had plans to meet up with my friend Jen from Edmonton at "Coyotes" bar on the island, but we missed our boat, got there late, and then discovered there was no such bar! But I had this feeling I would run into her anyways, despite the fact there were close to 10 000 people partying on the beach (*Farang is "foreigner" in Thai). Sure enough, we were there for no longer than an hour before Jen found me! I pretty much mowed her over since I was so excited to see her and in shock that we were able to meet up!
The energy on the beach was just electric and every time you moved along the beach you could find new music to dance to and new people to dance with. You could also see lots of people taking naps in the sand (Dimi, I never saw the designated sleep areas you told me about, but then again, I wasn't really looking for them!). People were painted with glow in the dark body paint and some groups even had costumes made up. Of course, the full moon party being what it is, we ended up losing each other pretty quick and I think everyone got separated from the main group at least once in the evening. But we managed to pull together and find everyone by the end of the night and all were on the same boat home. We actually arrived back at the camp JUST in time for the morning training session, but needless to say, we all just went to bed instead!
On Monday we finally all went on an elephant trek where we got to ride elephants through the jungle! I actually think that may have been the highlight of Koh Samui so far! After we hiked up to these waterfalls nearby before heading back to the camp. Apparently all the activities of the day were a little too much for me in the heat, because I think I may have had heat stroke. I took a nap when we got back to the camp but when I woke up I felt feverish and dizzy. I got changed for training, but I made it to the gym, then turned around and went back to my room and passed out for a couple more hours. I felt fine the next morning, so I guess I just needed the rest!
I don't think we have any more activities planned for the rest of our trip here and it's hard to believe that we have less than a week before everyone leaves for Bangkok. Jen mentioned they were planning on coming to Koh Samui in a couple of days, so we'll probably meet up again and then I will need to formulate some sort of game plan for when everyone leaves. Right now I'm thinking of sticking around the southern area of Thailand for a week or so and then making my way to Malaysia then Indonesia. I'll keep everyone posted!
