Hello All! Sorry I haven't written you but I have been traveling through Italy where so far the weather and scenery has been spectacular and the internet scarce. I will begin where I left off but will probably keep this a bit short for now. Ciao!
Day 5 - Traveling to Genova On day 5 we drove through the beautiful Alps where all of a sudden the GPS went out on us :( turns out it was something to do with Genova since it worked later on. However we had to stop for a map to figure things out, we had some grand Italian food at a little hillside town then grabbed a map, the GPS helps a lot and so without it we got a little lost on our way through Italy. We came close to Milan and then headed south, getting to Genova was crazy, we had to drop down through these hills on the windiest road and there were what seemed to be churches and castles on every hilltop. Once we go to Genova it got crazier, the directions were shotty and the streets were not labeled at all. I had an Italina translation book and quickly learned a few quick phrases to try and find directions, not many people spoke Englaize. By the way people in Genova drive crazy, like New Jersey right after eveyone had espresso and if there were no repercussions for doing whatever you wanted. We finally found our street and were trying to figure out the address system when we ran smack into Drew. He was a delightful surprise. We got into our B&B and settled in before hitting up a local restorante for food. It was really good, and the best of all is with wine and dinner for 4 the bill was like 40 Euro... very nice change from the 20 euro per meal per peice in Germany.
Day 6 - Genova The next day we hopped on the metro and hit Genova city central. We wandered through the city where we ran into old villas, ruins from the 11th century, strange run down city parks with waterfalls and incredible views, among others. One highlight was a Gothic Church from like 11th century. After wandering there was a free Ferry with the subway ticket that took us all along the harbor (look for the AMT boat). This was nice and offered a nice view of the Port town. We headed back to the same ristorante for dinner and tried the Pizza which was Malta Bueno. The vino in these places is ridiculously cheap if you ask for the house vino de rosso or blanco. Then the three guys headed out downtown for a night out. We randomly found the Louisiana Jazz Club earlier and made it our mission to see if we could find it again and hear soem Jazz, we found an Irish Pub along the way and met a few Genovans that knew Englaize, they were cool. Then we found the Jazz club but it was closed, it was dumb luck to find it really. We went to De Ferrari Plazza and there were some Brits and an american dude hanging out and we hung with them for a while and then wandered back to the hotel. it was a pretty fun night.
