Hi everyone!
Today was another sweltering hot day and I spent almost all of it outside! I went to visit Kowloon today, just across the water from Hong Kong Island. I started by getting the bus down into the city and then got the MTR over to Kowloon. First I went to the Flower markets. The air was full of wonderful scents and there were shops after shops selling flowers, spilling out onto the pavement, some I recognised and some I had never seen before! I also went to the Bird Gardens which is where people come to buy and sell birds and accesories. It was just full of cages and the sound of birds. I then walked down Fa Yuen Street market and then Tung Choi Street which had the Ladies market on... and had a bit of a spending spree. It is hard to get in mind how much stuff costs though, and not in a bad way! The most expensive thing I bought was a dress for HK$69 which is about 4.60 pounds. The thing is here things are either really cheap or are designer and really expensive. Anyway, I also walked down some of the Goldfish market which was full of shops selling pet things and around a fresh fish market - ew. There were loads of chinese restaurants and food places but for lunch I had a traditional Chinese McChicken burger with Mcfries and a McCoke (everything was in Cantonese and I was scared! Bit scared after eating my chicken burger though oo-er..). After lunch I walked down to the Jade market and then made my way to the HK Museum of History. 'The Story of HK' was really well presented and spanned everything from the geological formation of HK to present day. There were loads of videos and displays and it was really interesting. By now though I was really tired! I walked down to the Star ferry pier and caught the ferry across to HK island. I had to have a Ben and Jerry's of course (New York Super Fudge Chunk flavour today) and then caught the bus back home! A very long day but great fun!
lots of love Helenxxx
