Yesterday I arrived in Frankfurt after the ten hour flight, the flight really wasnt too bad, I got a little sleep. It was great, I took the train to the main train station, then i walked out and bam there was my hostel. Frankfurt Hostel. I decided to get things started straight away even though i was tired. I dropped off my bags and walked around town. I found frankfurt to be a clean city and as I walked I could tell it wasnt much of a tourist town. I went to the old town and it was pretty empty except for a few groups. I visited a couple of churches and then walked around looking for a place to eat when after walking through a beautiful park, pics to come, I finally found the crowds of people at the main street, Zeil. it was great, I grabbed a Bratwurst and coke (in a glass bottle) and sat to people watch. it was very good, mmmm. I then moved on to grab a Bier. I talked to a very friendly Frankfurt gentleman and he told me about the city. Then I walked some more looking at the people and eventuallz made my way back to the hostel where I took a nap, I was really tired at that point. I met my roommates at that point, we were in a six person bunk room but there were only 3 of us. The first was Francesco from Bologna italy, the second guz was from Soul South korea.
After napping for about 2 hours it was around 5:30 and I went to venture out on a walk again, this time I headed for the River Man (Main). I walked across Europes first suspension pedestrian bridge and then walked along the river. The weather was great and the park that runs all along the river was packed. I came across a Bier Garten right on the river, it was awesome and teeming with Franfurters. I got a Hefe Weizen and Salami sandwhich and sat down to enjoy the view and people watch. There were people running and biking and rollerblading, as I sat there it very much reminded me of portland. Frankfurt is a similar size and has a similar skyline, one tall building and a bunch of medium sized ones. I also came to the realization that I must have a lot of german blood in me since I really like it here. Good Beer, Great bread and sausages. After finishing my dinner I proceeded to walk more along the river, there were boats pulled up to the shore and people eating and drinking on them, basically floating restaurants.
I left the river and headed in land on the other side where there are a bunch of museums and supposedly some good bars. I accidentally stumbled upon on museum where the lady said the entrance fee was 20 euro, but when I said no she let me go for free. it was some 14th to 19th century relgious art, everything was in german though so i couldnt figure out exactlz what it was. Next I found some bars and restaurants and popped in one called Sams since it was hopping with people. I turns out Frankfurt was playing Wolfsburg or something like that in Frankfurt, I wish I had known that sooner, I would have gone to it. Oh well... after a Hef I walked back to the hostel to get ready to go out, while stopping for one more beer along the river.
I found Francesco and he wanted to go out with me. I needed to change though so he said he would meet me in the internet cafe. I got there and he was surfing so I talked to a few other people in there. Two girls from seattle and a couple from Calgary. Nice people.. the girls were busily planning their trip. After asking Francesco if he was ready and him saying yes but not getting up from the computer, i left him and headed for a club in the middle of town. on the way I heard music pumping and decided to check it out. It was a place called Living, and it was hopping! It was 6 euro cover and drinks were about 4 euro for beer and 8 for jaguer and red bull. I had fun at this place, it was a good crowd. Then I headed back to the hostel stopping along the way for a beer at a few bars. It was a good first day in Europe.
Today I headed out and caught my ICE train to Munich. It was a nice ride and I slept for quite a bit of it. Now I am in the Jaguer Hostel, which so far I like much more than the last one, cleaner and friendlier staff. Two of my roommates are a couple from San Francisco who are midway through a 3 week trip.
Thats all for now, will write more later. Pics are coming, havent found a place where I can pull them off the camera yet.
