Hi everyone!
So I have arrived in Hong Kong! After an eigth hour flight (but with the best in-flight entertainment so far - TV on demand, whahoo!) we touched down in hot and humid Hong Kong. Driving through HK was very exciting and up to The Peak where I am staying. I arrived on Monday evening and then yesterday I spent most of the day lazing around the apartment, recovering and uploading photos (which-took-like-three-hours-sigh-the-things-I-do-for-you!). Then in the afternoon I popped down to the Peak Gallaria to look at the shops and went for a walk around the Peak. It was a bit misty but the view of HK were still spectacular.
Today I ventured down into HK. It was very very busy. I caught the Peak tram in the morning and then followed a walking guide which took me, amoung other things, to Hollywood Road, the antiques area and the dried seafood district. My favourtite shop was 7Eleven where I bought a bottle of water and a Mars bar. I visited Man Mo Temple which was very exciting. The air was thick with insence and the decorations indise were amazing. Unfortunetly my pictures have come out a bit blurry but I'll upload them anyway. I then took a bit of a detour off the tour (and got a bit lost of course) and went to the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences. It looked at the developement of medicine in HK and compared Western medicine to Traditional Chinese medicine. It was very interesting. I then continued to explore the city and headed towards the Two Ifc building, which I got lost in. There were loads of designer shops (v. expensive) but no benches to sit on (by now I was dying to sit down). By the time I met Helen for lunch I felt like I had been run over by a bulldozer. We had a bite to eat and then caught the Star ferry over to Kowloon to get a view of the city. It was not very clear due to (I think) a mixture of mist and pollution. By now I also had a splitting headache due to (I think) a mixture of the weather and pollution. We caught the ferry back the then the bus to take us home. So that is Hong Kong. Tommorrow I am going to another island to visit a Buddist monastry which I am very excited about but not so looking forward to the finding my way around bit!
lots of love Helenxxx
