I have (triumphantly) returned

2008-05-05, Cape Town, South Africa

Much to the astonishment of many, I have returned to Cape Town not only alive, but safely. Well, this is true with the exception of badly sunburned thighs, too many cuts/blisters from paddling to count, what I think is a sprained finger, a splinter on my foot that I somehow (puzzingly) obtained from running back into my bedroom when I got home last night, and a horribly sore body that has generated pain in muscles I haven't used in years, if ever.

As I write this, I realize that a lot of my adventures and blogs end up with me in a lot of pain... But I must also stress that this trip was no less exciting and enjoyable as the rest. Indeed, the pain I am experiencing is more than worth it.

I got home around 10 pm last night, but was not as excited as I thought I would be to return to the city. The past 5 days were amazing, to say the least. For me to say that getting up early for each and every one of these days was not a problem hopefully expresses just how wonderful this trip was--because if you know me, I'm definitely not one to arise early when it is not necessary. Let me fill you in:

We were picked up at 7 am on Wednesday, only to spend 7 hours in the car with limited bathroom stops. At the end of the afternoon, we reached the South African border and left the country. Crossing a bridge and driving, we then reached the Namibian border. This is where the story gets interesting. But, given that I am about to be picked up, let me leave you with this suspensful hint: we may or may not have crossed the border illegally!

More to come in a few hours.

Next entry: Namibia Continued
