Many words have been used to describe San Miguel de Allende. Beautiful, typical, historical… all that stuff. I could leave it at hot and boring.
I got here about 10PM last night and was invited to go out with some hostel people to celebrate a birthday. We went to a couple of bars, danced a bit of Mexico’s insane version of the salsa and generally had a good time. I was in the bunk by 4AM and woke up about midday today, by which time the people I met last night were already on buses out of here. With everyone telling me the buses were getting full, I started the day by getting in a taxi, going to the bus terminal and booking a ticket to take me home tomorow. Since then I’ve eaten a really bad version of eggs benedict, walked around the square twice, jumped a tourist bus/tram thing for a lap of the city (it was pretty funny acutally - good tour guide) and wandered through a couple of craft shops. Unless I have missed a rich vein of exciting things to do by yourself, I am done with San Miguel and wish that my bus ticket was for today (and no, you can't change them). This place is soooo hot and boring. I can't for the life of me see why 18,000 gringos moved here.
