Hi all, So it's been sort of a while I feel like since I've written anything substantial here... So I've been reflecting a lot on what I want to do when I get home. That can be a dangerous thing because it makes me not as present here, but it also helps me be excited for what I want to see happen next year in my life.
This semester has helped me develop what I think good development work should be, and next year I look forward to an internship with an organization in Grand Rapids while I'm finishing up at Calvin.
I'm excited to be a part of more things at Calvin like their committees/coalitions for environmental sustainability and justice.
I've been learning more about what I'm not so good at and what my strengths are, I've discovered what I'm interested in and passionate about.
The topics I've been learning about that are most intriguing to me are immigration, the environment, and labor rights. I'm excited to live more intentionally about what I buy, and where it comes from. I want to live with less things and more community. I want you all to share your stories with me and I want to learn from you.
I've been learning a lot and have a lot to process, this is a strange country, with an equally strange and strong connection to the U.S. There is poverty and there is 2-story McDonald's ... there is Sherwin Williams and other U.S. businesses and there are street vendors and people living on less than a dollar a day.
I have more to say,... but I'm going to save it and write again after I've worked on wording my thoughts better.
oh, and I'll be home Friday the 16th at I believe 9:22am...
Grace and Peace -KT
