What can I say, Goa is just picture perfectly amazing: almost deserted beaches surrounded by palm trees, it is exactly the same as brochure postcards and postcards!
We flew from Nepal to Delhi then down to Goa which was a pretty smooth journey. Spent a week in Candolim which is the main tourist place to go. We acquired a "local" which was the first pub we went to - Gino's big blue shack situated right on the beach complete with hammocks, chair swings and cheap drink! We spent a few sunsets there.
Stayed in very basic accommodation and even had a few 3 inch visitors! (Cockroaches!)
We hired a moped for 3 days and travelled round the north of Goa visiting the quieter out of the way towns. We went to Panaji which is Goa's capital and on the way there Tracey got pulled over by the police and fined 100 rupees (about 1 pound 30!) for not wearing a helmet! Tut Tut!!
Met up with friends Laura and Graham who were here on holiday for 2 weeks. Spent a few days with them chilling out on the beach, eating and drinking. The local drink 'fenny' is lethal as Graham and I soon found out! It's like tequila only stronger, total memory blanks after that! They had 2 huge bedrooms in their hotel and (absolute stars that they are) took pity on us 2 poor backpackers by offering us their second room, needless to say we didn't take much persuading and took them up on it - 2 nights of luxury! We almost contemplated 'squatters rights!!'
We arrived in Palolim in South Goa on 4th Feb, it is just gorgeous - much quieter and less geared towards package holidays. The beach is set in a bay surrounded by hundreds of palm trees. We stayed in a tent just by the beach for the first night then moved to a beach hut overlooking the sea, it is about a 30 second walk down to the beach. It is great falling asleep to the sound of the waves lapping against the rocks.
So chilled out and relaxing here - makes home seem like another planet!!
