As I woke up the morning after the rodeo…….I knew that they day was going to be long and rough. I started to collect my belongings and noticed that I did not have any cash left. All I had was 700 Colones (almost $2) and about 4 bucks in quarters. I did not want to bring that much cash with me for safety reasons….but none of the places that I went to all weekend accepted debit cards….and me with my infinite wisdom and drunken stupor the night before did not think about how in the hell I was going to pay for breakfast. It was just my luck that the only place that took credit cards was closed……and I also found out that no one in Costa Rica will accept American coins…..only cash. It was starting to get hot……and I needed to get on the road…So with my 700 Colones, I bought an apple and 1.75 liters of water. As soon as I got on the road….I noticed that my legs were not as strong as they were on my first trip….in fact, it took all of 20 minutes for me to cash my legs out. I was hungry……and the apple had already left the building. To make matters worse….about 30 minutes into my trip….the washboard on the road got so bad…..my only bottle of water smashed though the bottom of the basket on my bike (pic has been posted) cutting the bottle so that all the water drained out before I could stop my bike. In addition….the kickstand broke from all the vibration…I had to stop and repair it with surgical tape so that it would not drag. So there I was…..broke, hungry, thirsty…with a bike that was slowly but surely falling apart. The only relief that I got the entire day was when a woman sprayed me with water to cool me off. It took me about an hour longer on the way back…….but I made it.
Would I do it again??? Hell yes…..in a heartbeat…..as you never know the opportunity to jump in the ring will present itself again…..
