After no luck with the first two hotels that I tried in Nosara/Guioness…..I stumbled across a sign that read “Room for Rent This Way.” I walked down a gravel path, over short bridge to small bungalow. I did not see anyone for a few minutes and then out walked a kid limping around with his face all cut up. I asked him if he was OK…..and he said that he had just been hit by a car. His name was Adrian, a 21 year old local surfer. He was still pretty pissed about the whole car incident because the person that hit him simply drove off. He said that the room was available and after I got all my stuff situated…..I helped him patch (pic posted) up his face. I asked Adrian what was going on this weekend and he said that tonight was the big rodeo in Esperanza…..he said we should go…..and I agreed. I went and caught a few waves, milled around town for a bit and then brought back some beers to the house to drink before we departed for the Rodeo. Since we both had bikes….Adrian said it would be much easier if we rode ….since the rodeo was about 10KM away. Right when it got dark….we loaded up and rolled out. Not sure if you know this……but when the sun goes down here in Costa Rica…..it is DARK. I am talking the kind of dark where you cannot see your own hand in front of your face. You could tell that Adrian was very familiar with the roads…..as he hauled ass through the town. I was struggling to keep up with him because I could not see a shit……and also for the fact that this kid was a hell of a lot younger than myself and in phenomenal shape. There I was standing up on my bike, sweating my ass of……and he was a good 20 yards ahead of me sitting down with a beer in one of his hands……pulling further ahead of me. After my day of riding, my legs were toast…so there was no way in hell that I was going to be able to keep up with him. When we got about 2KM away from the rodeo….I could hear all the people and music and new that it was going to be an awesome night of observation for me…………
