Well, it's only taken me 7 weeks but I eventually got to see the equator line thingy !
So, mum and dad have been and gone but it was absolutely great to see them after nearly 7 months.
We've got another new housemate, James from Manchester who arrived with a load of football cards - I can't believe I spent an evening playing Top Trumps ! All of us from the house got together in the lad's apartment and had a really funny night drinking copious amounts of cuba libre and getting over anxious at the loss of Paul Robinson or Fernando Torres - great fun !
Last week "Bruce Almighty" - the famous Bruce, founder of the organisation I work for - arrived in Quito. Fascinating guy. He's really pushing for Bruce Ecuador to start pushing the government to acknowledge the need for official funding of our sort of project. Apparently the government say that approx 5% of kids in Ecuador don't go to school, he thinks the figure is nearer 25% and to be honest that feels more realistic. So the next task is to try and convince the University students over here to do some in-depth research to prove to the government the extent of the problem. The new director, Victoria, certainly has her work cut out. I've just got one week left now.
And finally - Yes, I've seen it with my own eyes .... a tub of water with a plug, exactly on the line of the equator the water just goes straight down, a few inches into the northern hemisphere it drains away anti-clockwise and a few inches over the line into the southern hemisphere it goes clockwise !! And I've balanced an egg on the line of the equator ! I can leave Ecuador a happy person now !
