We have really been having a great time for being in a city full of jeans and tight tops, high heals and tenishoes. There is clothing stores and jewlery stores, small sidewalks and fast taxis. Noise everywhere and nothing slows down.
The Plaza has all these trees and the bird are so loud right in the morning and supper extra loud just at sunset. Justin was wondering if they are trying to figure who get to sleep with who? I wish I could record it.

This weekend was great though! We went up to one of the plazas and they had all of these booths with artisains stuff and then a food cort with $1 beers, churos (doughnut like fry bread in a rope shape, cinimon sprikles, yum) and dancing acts. We saw a merimba band and about 5 dances Mexican and Yucatan. Really colorful and strong. STomping and clapping. The men hold their hands behind their backs and sometimes a hat is in their hands. The back drop was a beautiful painting and had 2 levels people could exit and enter on. The first group of woman work silky bright green skirts that they help up with open hands and then fluttered them around twirling and giving everyone underwear peeks.
The next girl was in a white wedding vail and out fit. The man she danced with was in white and they would do this pecking move with their heads. Peck peck peck, like they were kissing. They really reminded me of chickens. Ruffleing their featers, scratching their feet and flapping their arms even.

That was Sat. night. For Sunday they closed off all the street around the plaza and a couple more. That was fantastic for us on day and night of no cars under our door. The pace slowed and people quieted down just a bit. Performances started at 9am and I think went until the night. We saw more tradisional dancing by a local group. The men wore white shirt and pants (cotton or linen) with clip cloppity sandals and the girls wore the embroired Yucatan dresses with blue, yellow, red and pink flowers over the top part and sleves, white in the middle more decorations on the bottome, lacey hems and a second layr of lacy hem with white flemenco shoes. Their hair was pulled pack in a bun and they put brightly colored cornhusk folded into a massive flower to the side and back. This allowed them to to a dance where they put a serving tray on their heads with a beer bottle full and glasses full too. They danced and spun, at the very end some spinning so fast that the contence would fly out. Oh, how wonderful. I feel spoiled. Everything is free too.

We got some liquados (fruit and water puree) and a bottle of Tequila. Sat out on the balcony and people watched for a couple of hours. Muy tranquilo. Then decided to go get a flaming spanish coffe at this cool bar with three dementional figures molded to the wall in painted murals of what I think is scenes from famous Mexican film. Great place up a block fromt the plaza or two right across from the Gran Hotel where Castro stayed when he came to Mexico.

Last night we were told by a woman Jaqc in our hostal there was another free theatre performance at the theatre down the street. So we stood in line for about 40 mins got in and saw an awesome production!! Dances from Mayan, spanish, lots of Cuban and african dancing. Great and bright candy store colors, ruffles, sparkels, layers and layers of waves of fabrics, tassels of toule, stripes on strips, glittered top hats, brizilian feathered bottoms and head pieces, Wow! So fun and they were all great dancers. It was at least an hour performance. And to boot the theatre was painted and circular with statues of cupids on the balcony.... crazy chandelier! We sure are damn lucky!!!
