Week 2 in Jakarta

We have just finished our second week in the awesome city of Jakarta. This week we worked in a different slum teaching English to children at kindergarten age as well as to teenagers. When we were not teaching we went visiting families who lived in this area. Compared to the previous slum we worked in this one was much more Musl*m. So we had to be really careful about what we said or did. We really realized what it is like to be in a Musl*m country in that when we would 'talk to Dad' as a group we would have to close the curtains and shut the door so no one would see us. But at the same time the families we talked to were very open for us to 'talk to Dad' with them. Apparently this is quite different to what other teams have expereinced in this area. So that is really cool to hear. We also had the opportunity to talk to teenagers at a high school and parents from the slum to encourage them to keep going with education.

On Saturday we led the youth group at the 'house of Dad' which we have been part of for the last weeks. We did the everything drama, the one step song and a 'talk'. Afterwards, while 'talking to Dad' with the youth, 'Dad' really showed up. There were people falling down, people weeping and then 24 people recommitted their lives to following 'Dad'. It was amazing! Afterwards we spent like an hour with the youths taking pictures with them all. It was crazy! But they were very cool.

The next day when we went the the 'house of Dad' we were blown away. It was our last time there and people just kept giving us food, drinks and a lot of money. We were really overwhelmed by their generousity.

On Tuesday we head off to Cambodia. With the amazing time we have had in Jakarta we are all really excited to see what will happen next. 'Dad' is so good!

Until next time :)
P.S Sorry for all the crazy lingo - have to be really careful here in Indonesia about what we write.
