We sat next to some girls on the way to Merida on the bus. They are from Seatle! They are on a 6 month trip through Central America. We were headed to the same hostal so I asked them if we could all squeeze into a taxi and share the price $40 peso, it seems its $30 to $40 p. to any where in the city. Inless you get a mettered taxi, that can sometimes be 25 pesos.
We jumped in with my back pack on our laps. They are cool girls, we actually ran into them a few times. Nicole and Katie. They ended up staying at that place. We have heard contineous good things about Nomad Hostel. It is 219p for a private room no bath. Good price!. Heard they are clean and laid back but profesional. No big breakfast to offer, not like the place we are staying Zocalo Hostal off the plaza (300 for a room no baņo. Sounds like there is a good group of travelers there too.
We found a room right off the plaza called Zocalo Hostal. They have been pretty good. The staff isn{t over friendly and not so much are the people but we got a room for 200 pesos. it isLnt finsished. Supper funny we are now indoor camping. The unfinished room means not electricity, no light, a broken window, a french door with not currtain, a dirty floor I swept and mopped and no key, oh yeah and balcony doors that don{t reall stay shut. Supper funny. But we are creative and the accepting type. I moved the bed to face the cool mural that hasnt been painted over yet and moved the chair to the other corner. moved the balcony table to the corner by the bed and door. now there is nice flow in the room and the energy circulates and seams lighter. We got out our indian sheet and covered the door, locked our valuables in the lockers, set our ear plugs by the bed and got our our head lamps out for the night. I guess we were the right poeple for this place.
From our balconey we face the plaza and can see the church lit up at night. The sun set to the left and the happenings of the plaza. The police or gaurd comes out to raise the flag and play trumpets and drums. The cars are loud and the young people make out under the trees right accross the street. never ending sights to see. The breakefast here is great, fresh eggs ad a great kitchen. That makes us stay the most and the nice price of 200 pessos.
We hope to call the dentist that is being recomened over and over tomorrow. Then we can plan out a little more.
All for now. tell you more about this highly populated and busy city latter. I don{t know if I ever want to go to Mexico city now. Amber
