The day after the dogs. Sunshine skiing
Having opted for the hostel breakfast we got up early, ate and headed out to the slopes. The Sunshine area is approximately 20km from Banff itself and is set quite high in the mountains. To get up to the main part of the resort requires a 20 minute gondola trip. We arrived just after the first lift and were up at the slopes for 9am. The conditions were still quite good despite the lack of recent snowfall. The main problem that we both experienced was with our skis or the apparent difference between our skiing style and the skis we had been given. Having not paid attention much the night before neither of us noticed that we had been set up with expert carving skis and both promptly struggles to get to grips with them. Ed had just spent 10 days on a set of twin tips and Ronnie was used to a pair of all mountain skis. We looked like right plonkers struggling down the slopes. It was a really bizarre feeling. Throughout the day we got a little more used to them but it was clear that these were not the skis for us. It was the worst display of skiing either of us had put on for many years. We were going to have to change them for tomorrow.
