I'm sitting by the riverside having a beer and listening to the two English girls at the next table, who are talking so loudly that it's impossible not to overhear. "He tells me he loves me but can't be with me because he's never felt this way about anyone before." ??? I want to do a Miranda, walk up and say, "Honey, he's just not that into you" but one of them looks quite fierce, like she might sock me one. Her bright blue, thickly and chavily-applied eyeshadow is already giving me a headache so I don't want any more trouble. (I fear this is what Valerie meant about being sarky. I'm not really a bitch, I just have an aversion to the awful English people I've come across here. I have particularly taken against these two because they're being so rude to the waiter and giving him pained little expressions, a la Marjorie Dawes, asking him to repeat himself. He speaks better English than they do, but they have decided in advance that they can't understand him because he's Chinese. Much preferred the respectful travelling Germans I met in NZ. And also, don't forget, sometimes I am just playing for laughs! See how you have made me feel guilty Valerie!)
Made my little pewter dish at Royal Selangor then got followed around the showroom by the trainer to try and pressure me into buying stuff. It's the sort of place where you could easily take care of everyone's birthday presents for the next year but I really can't fit another thing into my bag. Apparently my dish is very good for a first attempt (what can I say, just good with my hands) and although I thought he said that to all the girls, I had to agree when he showed me some examples of other first attempts. I rule!
Last night went on the Night Safari at the Zoo with a girl from my dorm and from our scarily open-sided tram, saw hyenas, tigers, lions, elephants, rhinos and the like. Fab. I couldn't quite see how we were separated from the big cats - there must have been something - but as I was sitting on the outside, I was ready to pick up the child in the row in front of me and throw her to save myself. Luckily it wasn't necessary as all that came near to the tram were some huge Malaysian anteater things.
Goodbye to Singapore today and off to Egypt - to the detriment of my carbon footprint, via London. Goodbye to the worst dorm offenders I've met yet (English girls, loud, hectoring, stealing things, and plain rude. The French girls were almost forgiven.) Goodbye to feeling like one of those women in Tenko, all sweaty and hot! Goodbye to the marvellous cleanliness of the streets of Singapore - if only London was so neat and tidy. Wonder what films there will be on the plane...and what we'll have for dinner! ;o)
[BTW I understand that a few people have tried to text me on my old number. That phone got run over on the way to Heathrow in January and I've had another temp phone and no. with me for travelling. I think my messages on the old phone were set to save to the phone and not the SIM, so I don't think I will be able to retrieve any messages anyone has sent since I left, the former phone now being mangled. Now am getting messages because have new phone at home for old SIM and messages being forwarded. But probably easier to email until I get back to UK in late May. Confused? I am myself!]
