Yesterday (Thursday 27th) Ben and I went on the Singapore Flyer, Singapore Zoo and had dinner in Little India. We were going to do the Night Safari last night but it started raining late afternoon at the zoo so we are going tonight.
The Singapore Flyer is like a big ferris wheel and it is located in Marina Square along the esplanade. It takes about half an hour to go around and the views over Singapore are amazing. We were able to see many parts of the city. If you don’t like heights then it wouldn’t be for you. Same goes for the elevators to our floor in the Pan Pacific.
In the afternoon we went to the Singapore Zoo. There are some boring, stinky animals and there are some gorgeous animals with plenty of character. Highlights of the zoo for me were the Primate Kingdom – all of the monkeys are awesome – Wild Africa – gorgeous lions and giraffes – Elephants of Asia – beautiful creatures – and the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia with the Hamadryas Baboons – cheeky little critters! Ben and I were very lucky that we brought our umbrellas as it started pouring late afternoon. The rain was very cooling however, as we were very hot from walking in an environment that resembled a cross between a sauna and a rainforest. Lots of liquids were consumed and parts of the zoo with fans and air conditioning were treasured!! I am enjoying the temperature here though...29 degrees here is very different to 29 degrees in Tassie!
For dinner we went to the Banana Leaf Restaurant in Little India. The plates are banana leaves! It was an experience going to Little India and an experience that I won’t repeat. It is the grottiest part of Singapore! The rest of Singapore is so beautiful and clean yet this part of the city stinks and its streets are ruined with the rubbish and crap stalls that obstruct the footpath. We walked back to our hotel in Marina Square from Little India. Lots of walking – roughly 7km!!
Today Ben and I are going have suits made, go to Sentosa Island by cable car and return to the Singapore Zoo for dinner and the Night Safari. We are staying at the Carlton Hotel tonight as the special price for the Pan Pacific was for two nights only and it reverts to its original price tonight. The Carlton Hotel was a mystery hotel that Ben and I booked at a special price. We walked past there last night and it looks like the same standard as the Pan Pacific.
