Something that I have been noticing in Latin American countries is the prevalence of trash…….EVERYWHERE. Costa Rica is such a beautiful country. Not sure about the exact percentage…..but I think that close to 30% of the country is a natural preserve or some type of park. However…..it seems as if they have zero clue on how to manage their trash issues. On some streets….the trash is simply piling up…and at night, the monkeys, dogs, cats, bums, ect……break into the trashbags and strew it all over the place. My first guess as to why trash is such a problem was because of the absence of property taxes. I am starting to believe it is culturally related and not economic. Example….the other night I was hanging out with my family and they were eating some of the chocolate that I brought them. I noticed that when they were finished, they simply threw the wrappers on the ground. Now remember….we are in the house…..not at some random location. Then I started to notice items that had been thrown on the ground from a few days ago.

Whatever the reason…..it is a huge problem. I have driven all over Mexico and Costa Rica….and it is not pretty…….
