We left for Koh Lanta on the ferry and after our last experience decided not to book any accommodation before seeing it! As luck would have it we were met at the pier on arrival by a hotel tout who offered a free taxi ride to Lanta Riviera Resort Bungalows and if we didn't like what we saw we had a free taxi ride! The bungalows were on the beach we had planned to stay on anyhow and for the price of 700 Baht (12 pounds), the mere sight of a swimming pool convinced us it was our home for the next few days. I had expected Koh Lanta to be really busy with hundreds of hippy 18 year olds smoking dope, how wrong could I have been, the beaches were almost empty.
As with the beaches the roads were just as empty which was one of the reasons Steve persuaded me to hire a moped. To my surprise I loved it........mind you it was automatic so no changing gears to worry about. At 30 kms per hour it took us more or less the whole day to explore Koh Lanta. We weren't in a hurry and you see more at that speed.
Steve decided he wanted to go diving for 2 days so I kept my moped for 3 days in total costing me 750 Baht (13 pounds). Money well spent!
Sorry Mum but I've got the bug now and will be riding my own motorbike in Vietnam!
After 4 days of chilling on Koh Lanta, drinking vodka and pineapple, eating thai green curry, red curry, orange curry, yellow curry................................infact any curry we moved onto Koh Jum.
