My Host Family
I am all unpacked and settled into my new digs. I am still trying to figure out what everyone does around here…but it looks as if everyone has multiple jobs …..except for the mother. She runs a pretty tight ship and the place is spotless. They might not have much…but I can tell you the family appreciates what they do have/own.
Here is the layout of the family:
Agustin (Father) – Horse Trainer / Security guard
Zoradia (Mother) – Keeper of the domain
Ariel –only 7 years old…..
Elizabeth – Student
Alexis – Bartender / Horse Trainer
Janet – Maid / Nanny
Melvin – General Contractor / Gardener / Security guard.
So in a nutshell, we have a 900 SQ ft house…….with a total of 8 people in it. Yes….you are reading this correctly. If you read my earlier post…you will recall that I have a 12x12 room….so you can understand how uncomfortable it might feel having so much space when everyone else is crammed in the other rooms.
No being able to speak Spanish blows. I went into the porch/living room/dining room/TV room/garage…which I will now refer to as the “Super Room” and sat down with the rest of the family. What sucked was that it took me about 5 min to run through my entire vocabulary….then I had to sit there in silence and try decipher what was being said….with Melvin leaning over to me every few minutes talking to me as if I spent my childhood either eating paint chips. I do appreciate his efforts…..but never again will I speak to someone from another country as if they are retarded. It does not matter how slowly or loud you talk…..it does not accomplish a damn thing.
