Lava and hot springs

2008-03-15, La Fortuna, Costa Rica

After the canopy adventure yesterday I slowed things down and went on a night walk. I was quite impressed because my main goal on this trip was to see a sloth and 2 minutes into the walk I saw one. I also saw racoons, frogs, couti, porcupine, variety of insects and birds. Oh and teo rather large tarantulas.

Today was spent travelling from Monteverde to La Fortuna which is a town in the shadow of the active volcano Arenal. We travelled by boat part of the way giving us our best view of Arenal. In the evening we went to a lookout site were we could see lava coming down the mountain. Although the summit was clouded over the lava came far enough doen the mountain side to be visable. Afterwards the group went to a very commercialised "hot springs" where I did the most dangerous activity of this trip... I went down a water slide! One go on this relavitely short slide and I realised that Costa Rica probably doesn't have many regulations regarding safe construction. I hit my head so badly I was worried I'd end up with a concusion or possibly whiplash. Lucky I didn't get either, just a bad headache.

Next entry: Another , why am I doing this moment....
