So we hopped on the MegaBus to Cardiff Wales at 7:30am on Saturday. We drove for 3 1/2 hours and arrived in Cardiff at 11:00am. We were all a little hungry so we decided to search out somewhere to get food.
The rugby game didn't start until 5pm. France vs. Wales a championship game. This was an event of the year for the people in Wales. The streets were being shut down for the night and pubs were already getting prepped for the large hordes of people that were expected. I would compare this to the Stanley Cup game at home... So basically a huge deal and we were there to celebrate with the Welsh!
We finally just decide to go to O'Neils where we planned to celebrate and watch the game from the beginning. We get inside and it's already packed! There is a small area cornered off where you can order food. But you have to order, eat, then leave the area and go back into the main pub. We get some couches and order our food. We decide to eat well because the rest of the day/night will be dedicated to drinking!
When we finish we see the waitress taking down the "no draught served in this area" sign... we ask the waitress "Are you serving draught here now?". "Not quite yet" she says,"but we aren't serving food here anymore". We all look at eachother and think the same thing. We all smile "So do we have to leave this spot then?" we eagerly await her reply. "Nope we're turning that TV on so you can stay here." she answers. So we have a whole corner with couches and chairs and a table for the whole night! It was basically awesome.
So the drinking begins at 12pm... and lasts until 10pm... I soon discovered that although vodka redbull is delicious... it does not like my body AT ALL! We cheer with the locals who are dressed in jerseys, hats, facepaint, flags and otherwise and we party when Wales beats France... Don't ask me the score - I was not coherent to remember, nor could I read it anyway! I'll be honest... I was there to drink and to be able to say I've been to Wales! ha ha
So we finally make our way to our hotel. Katie, Mel and I are virtually the only ones awake in the cab. It poured all day and all night. I was soaked and my body was hating me even more as our evil cab driver sped down the road to our hotel which we discovered was an hour drive away... in Bristol!! ha ha, that's not even in Wales!
Mel asks the driver how much longer - he yells at her that he cannot concentrate when she talks to him. She tells him "You know you could have just used that time to tell me how much longer"... this did not go over well. We did not speak to the driver for the remainder of the trip...Except for when everyone screamed at him to pull over - I was about to lose my 10hours worth of booze.
We finally make it to the hotel - the driver still being a maniac driving down the small windy streets to our hotel... still not helping my situation. We are infront of the hotel and I still have no idea why he was still driving...so the third time the cabby was talked to was when I yelled "Could you please stop driving like and a$$hole and let me out?!". I then left a little mark of my presence in Bristol.
Our hotel was quaint. 4 of us in one room, 4 in another. The room was the size of my bedroom - but it was somewhere to sleep (or try to). Mel Katie and I soon discovered our 4th roomie, Mark, snores A LOT! Between Mel yelling at him all night and me kicking him over the side of the bed I am sure he will never want to share a room with us again!
We make it back to our bus by 2pm the next day and head home. A great whirl wind trip to Wales!
Follow the dream...
