Tangier Island - Just a jump across the Bay

Tangier Island is such a neat place. There is probably only one or two little vehicles on the entire island therefore many of the inhabitants use golf carts to get around and to take visitors on tours of the island. Tangier has about 600 or more residence on an island situated in the Chesapeake Bay. To get to know Tangier may I suggest you go Google and read The Tangier Island Guide. Why bore you with a history lesson when you can read what you want yourself on the web.

We started our day out with a nice breakfast then jumped aboard Chesapeake Blue (you've read the reference to Larry and Sue's boat in our Fishin' Fools journal) and took off one beautiful August day across the Bay. The water was calm and we made good time.

I had lived in the Northern Neck, that is what they call the Rappahannock River area, for about 20 yrs and had never been to Tangier. This was a treat! The island is friendly and you can get your hands on some good soft crabs.

We saw cats lazin' in the sun, the home style restaurants, the locals are are cool to listen to and you get the feeling that you've stepped back to a different time. The draw to this fishing based village is unusual, it isn't what a lot of people think or maybe even hope it will be but the locals love it and if you are a true adventurer then you will too. Not all that is luxury, resort orienated and plush is what traveling is all about but to each his own. To be honest I like travel both ways so I enjoy them both.

Enjoy the photos!
