Well here it is, another birthday. Tinged with shitness I’m afraid as I got home from the boozer last night, just after midnight, and decided to open my cards. I’d checked the mailbox on the way in and found an envelope from my Ma, but as I’d already got their card it didn’t fill me with any hope of another one.
So I got into my apartment, sit down and open the most beautiful card I think I’ve ever received, from my Ma and Pa. Had me in floods I don’t mind telling you. So moved onto card number 2 from my ‘little’ Sis that was part of the package in the envelope from mi’ Ma. Another lovely card from “Tru” which again had me welling up. Onto envelope number 3, this time a double surprise as it contained not only a lovely lovely card from ‘Big’ Sis Lol and Ad, but also from my nieces. Seeing their writing was just the last straw and I cracked. I looked like I’d been poked in the eyes with a stick when I woke up on my futon at 4am. Being that I have to be out of bed, by the absolute latest at 5 to get to work I was slightly pissed off with myself – again!
I’m sure it’s a phase that all people who are away from home go through. Certain moments when you’re just used to having family and friends there, like birthdays or Christmas. Just for a wee while you feel very far away from everyone, and it hits you right in your gut. Not a good feeling. I sympathise with anyone who’s been through the same.
BUT, woke up and struggled to work with probably a level 5 hangover on a 1-10 scale. No time for brekky when I left (well I snaffled a banana), so it was a quick pit stop at Maccy D’s for a couple of McMuffins and a McHash McBrown. Relatively cheap for the McPrice and it filled the gap nicely when I got to work and quaffed the lot with a big cup of coffee – mmm.
Friends and family have been calling and e-mailing me all day with best wishes which has cheered me up no end. Got a lovely call from my Grandma while I was driving the 65 miles of torture to work this morning, bless her heart, she’s the greatest.
Well, I’ve only another hour to go and then it’s back Houston for the Strokes gig. A friend of mine has agreed to come with me so I don’t go on my own on my birthday which is very kind of them (Not everyone's taste around these parts). So picking them up at 7:30 straight from work and then it’s off to the gig. Not sure I fancy a massive night, but I think I need one to lift me out of the doldrums a bit.
”Mine’s a Bud Light barman!………..make that a gallon.”
For the record “Little’ should be read as the younger of my 2 elder Sisters and ‘Big’ should be read as the eldest of the 2. Just to clear up any doubts as to the references. Thanks.
Easy.
