19th Feb 2008 : ViewPoint & Runtee Bay It is our last day on this beautiful island and we want to make full use of it to discover whatever gem or treasure there is by foot as I am terrified of the longtail boat ride after yesterday!!
After breakfast, we set off to find the ViewPoint and were surprised to discover that the road leading to it is just at the back of our hotel. We went up the little steps which were built for the purpose of reaching the ViewPoint and were surprised to find many cheap accomodation on our way up.
First & Second ViewPoint: There was the First ViewPoint and if you go a little higher, you will reach the Second ViewPoint, which has a much better view. From there, we found out that we could actually trek through a jungle to reach Runtee Bay, which we saw yesterday during our island-hopping trip. We were delighted with the find and started trekking we never realise that besides being able to admire and experience the crystal clear waters and amazing rock formations, we would also get to do some trekking which is reasonable easy but can be difficult for the not-so-fit as some parts of the route were quite steep. For us, it was a much better way to get to Runtee Bay than by taking a longtail boat, which you can easily get from Tonsai Bay.
Runtee Bay: This is a very quiet beach with only a handful of tourists. The first thing which struck me as awesome when we first set foot here was the extra soft white sand...The tranquil atmosphere was so very wonderful the water was clear, as was everywhere else on the island but there were too many corals and stones for one to really enjoy being in the waters. You have to go really far out into the sea to be able to swim.
There is a very nice restaurant on the beach serving delicious local delicacies and there we a few very nice chalets for rental. Totally non-commercial as there was not even any sign to show us what the guesthouse is called.
You can choose your own quiet spot on this long white beach to just sleep peacefully or read a book. The whole setting was so peaceful and natural no beach chairs or loud music to interrupt your quiet moments.
After a few well-rested hours on this quiet bay, we started trekking back to ViewPoint 2 in time to catch the sunset. By then, a huge crowd has already gathered and everyone had chosen their best seats on the rocks, waiting for the Sunset to begin. It was truly an amazing sight to behold the golden rays reflecting against the waters with the imposing mountain outlines as a backdrop a fantastic finale to herald the end of our trip here.
So, this is the end of our Ko Phi Phi trip our next destination = the Scottish Highlands :=P (fingers crossed)!!
