Living in Heidelberg

2008-03-02, Heidelberg, Germany

So I've been living in Heidelberg now for about two months. The town is absolutely gorgeous, especially the castle. But unfortunately, I have not been able to see a whole lot of the area. I am living on the United States military base, so for the most part, I am surrounded by American things. The base is not in walking distance to the town, so we really only go into Heidelberg on the weekends, and typically stick to the Hauptstrasse.

Last weekend, I ended up not doing any travelling decided to ask our neighbor lady if she would show us to get to a bakery that is supposed to be really close by. She did even better and drove us. She also showed us some really great Germany farmer's markets and other clost grocery stores that we can walk to. We spent the whole day just stopping by peopel's farms and stores. Late that night, Leddie's husband thanked for taking his wife out, by making us all dinner. He grilled full slabs of ribs, tons of brats and hotdogs, as well as steaks!! That was probably the best meal we have had while in Germany!

My roommates include Stacy, Nate, and Jeremy. Everything started out so great! The honeymoon period lasted about 3 and a half to 4 weeks. Then everything went down hill from there. The boys are incredibly sloppy and Stacy and I are constantly cleaning up after them. I don't even want to think about the redstain that was on their bathroom floor around their toilet....eww!! Plus, I teach with Nate, and it's not like I dont like him, I think we just spend WAY too much time together. It's gotten to the point where every word he says pisses me off haha. But we can get along just fine, when we want to.

Stacy on the other hand, is a great roommate. She and I get along so well. She and I have become permanent travelling partners and prefer not to take others with us. We have travelled in larger groups, which is fine, but it is just a lot easier to make everyone happy when it's just the two of us.

Overall, I love living here.
