Just before Lent Goa celebrates with Carnival. Parades everywhere, throwing of colored water, firecrackers, fireworks and in general lots of noise and festivities. Our local celebration consisted of a parade down the beach road with floats including a view of the bullfight done in papier mache. Then lots of celebrating on the beach and the beach parking lot.
On the beach at various later dates we watched what we call the "local circus". It is a family that sets up a tightrope in front of the beach shack. One of the children (age 4 - 8) does a tightrope walk, collects some rupies and then moves on to the next beach shack.
Also, on the beach is the occasional sea snake which gets washed up on the beach with the incoming tide. The one in the picture looks like it had a meal before getting washed up. While they are poisonous they are not really dangerous and there are never (that we know of) report of people being bit by a sea snake. The fact that we do not venture into the water is not related to sea snakes (just kidding). We cool off in the warm sea often.
We share the beach with the local fishermen and we share the beach road with the local cattle, as can be seen in the picture. On the beach once a week we enjoy Indian classical music and dance.
Along the beach road is a very small daycare centre which we pass everyday. Barbara has setup a relationship with the teacher and plans a visit in the near future. We caught them during a toilet break as can be seen in one of the pictures.
When not on the beach we sometimes venture into the big city (Margao) where we visit the bookstore, have lunch in a garden restaurant and on this occasion got a haircut.
And when really up to a challenge I work on the memory game that our grandaughter (Abbey) sent us. It came with instructions that included the requirement to bring it back on our return.
