18th Feb 2008 : Phi Phi Don & Bamboo Island

Monkey Bay:
We started our second Adventure Day at approximately 10am today. Met San at Tonsai Bay and took the longtail boat to Monkey Bay, which is at the west side of Tonsai Bay. It was a very beautiful beach with sandy white sand and again, clear waters, which is so characteristic of all the beaches on this part of Thailand. The monkeys of course were only the side attraction.

Nui Bay:
We proceeded to Nui Bay next..herein lies our favourite beach – it is only a very small beach but it was not crowded at all and it was so very serene and tranquil that one would want to stay here whole day without doing anything.

Hin Klang:
From Nui Bay, we headed towards the northern part of the island to a plca called Hin Klang, which is located just off the Laem Tong Beach. We were told that this is the best snorkelling spot in Southern Thailand and true enough, we were not dissapointed.

There were so many colourful fishes in the crystal clear water, and the corals are just simply amazing !!

Bamboo Island:
After Hin Klang, we headed further north towards the Bamboo Island on open sea. Here, the waves were big and the sea really rough. Xuanyi experienced her worst boat ride and had to constantly focus her sight on her feet instead of the choppy sea to avoid being sea sick! Our longtail boat was simply bobbing up and down rhythmically with the high waves and it was not a very nice experience! You might want to consider taking a speedboat if the waves are too big.

However, upon reaching the island, we feel that the bad sea ride experience wa totally worth it. There are not many tourists here at all, no beach vendors, no music – just a few fishermen’s huts and white sandy beaches with many washed up shells on the beach. The island is like a tropical paradise with coconut tress swaying to the natural sounds of the waves.

Very, very tranquil and well worth the long and scary journey by our longtail boat!

Shark Point near Long Beach:
From Bamboo Island, we headed back towards the direction of Tonsai Bay and again, we had to brave the big waves in the open sea – this time, a longer non-stop journey. San stopped us at the Shark Point near Long Beach for Argi to swim and snorkel for a bit. You could even see colourful fishes from the boat at this spot!

It is so beautiful and the full of underwater reefs that the colour of the sea becomes dark green here.

Back to Tonsai:
Walking back towards our hotel through the Village, we stopped to have some delicious pizzas at one of the shops there. Really authentic crispy pizza, surprisingly !! And of course, we still miss the fresh watermelon juice which has become our favourite drink throughout our stay in Phi Phi !
