Golf with a rugby ball shaped…ball plus a cinema trip to remember.
Today we have a whole day in Wanaka to do as we please. Ideas for the day came in thick and fast. Suggestions included table tennis, water skiing, nothing, or get drunk. With the sun beating down like a highly cancerous, distant light source with no ozone layer in the way we decided to put off making a choice and head out for breakfast. Two steps from the front door and a quick glance into the TV room, the morning plan changed. Arsenal had just kicked of against AC Milan. We decided to keep breakfast short and get back to watch the game. After a quick trip out for coffee and croissants we were soon back for the second half. By now it was mid morning and there still wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Waterskiing was put off until the following the morning due to wind so instead we headed off to play golf-cross. It’s a bit like golf but with a rugby shaped ball and instead of a hole there are goal posts with a net in between. For a better description try Google. The course just so happened to be located on a winery so after a few tastings and a quick purchase we strolled over to the first tee of the 9 hole course. Ronnie walked away with victory after Ed hooked his ball left on the 7th out of bounds onto a road, into the path of oncoming traffic. The ball was lost forever. Back at the hostel Ronnie let Ed win at table tennis to restore his pride. After a mound of dinner it was off to the local cinema. This is a must do if you happen to find yourself in Wanaka. It was basically a very small cinema with all of the old seats ripped out and replaced with a variety of old to new very comfy sofas. They sold booze and even had an interval where you could pick up pre ordered food or just buy a fresh baked cookie like we did. We watched The Kite Runner, it was good. Bye.
