We got here and were shocked to realise that you can relax in India. Kerala has to be one of the most beautiful and friendly places.
We have been pretty busy since getting here. We stayed in Trivandrum for a few days then went to Kovalam to the beach for a couple of days. After that we headed to Varkala another beach place, but much nicer than Kovalam. After Varkala we got the train to Alleppey and headed out on our own houseboat through the backwaters. We had our own chef, captain and mechanic for three days and it was fantastic! We saw the locals washing in the river, fully clothed, and also saw people canoeing along in tiny boats to get to the shops etc. After Alleppey we travelled to Fort Cochin, this was such a funny place as it was a town but really quiet with hardly any traffic so walking around was really nice. We went to see Martial Arts demonstrations which were pretty scary to be honest. They were showing us how to defend against knives etc. and they said that they introduced the art years ago to help protect them when they travelled through the jungle (from people and bears, tigers etc.). We also saw a traditional dance which was a bit over the top!! The drums were so loud and they literally shouted all the time but the pictures look nice! Hope you are all well!!!
