Chicken bus to San Ignacio

2008-02-22, San Ignacio, Belize

I left Caye Caulker early to catch the first chicken bus of this trip. These buses are so named because they pack people in like battery hens (and you may also see the odd chicken on board!).

San Ignacio is 10km from the Guatemalan border. This stop is the first of our eco-lodge stays. I spent the afternoon floating over rapids in a tyre tube. And while trying not to drwn in the rapids I floated along spotting iguanas, kingfishers, parrots and toucans. As well as, numerous small fish that refused to stop nibbling at my back side as it stuck out of the inner tube.

I also got to meet the resident tarantula at our accomdation. One of the British twins on the tour was the only one in the group brave enough to hold it!

Next entry: Welcome to Guatemala!
