Snorkeling in Caye Caulker

2008-02-20, Caye Caulker, Belize

I spent today on a sail boat, going snorkeling the Hol Chan Marine Reserve to the north of Caye Caulker.

Belize is dubbed one of the best dive locations in the world but based on this reef I wonder why? Much of the coral is dead and overgrown with algae. Although there are plenty of fish these wasn´t a lot of variety in species. On a brighter note... I did gt to see several nurse sharks and some large stingrays, as well as, a eagle ray, turtle and a moray eel that was swimming in open water away from it hide (not a common sight).

And for a novel twist there was a lunar eclipse at 9pm that wasn´t visible from Australia.
