Goodevening everyone!
WELLLLLLLL WELLL WELLLL...Ben has handed over the task of journal entry tonight to ME! (on our 3rd last night, thanks benny!!)
As it was our last day in vietnam today, we decided to make the most of it and cruise around the city streets. We were up early and actually made it to breakfast (a very rare occasion for us), even though we weren't particularly looking forward to the food (we figured if the hotel room was shitty...what was the food going to be like...) turned out to be alright - biggest pieces of toast we have ever seen!
We hailed down a taxi and asked him to take us to the Reunification Palace, but as you can imagine, communication between us was not very strong, and we first got taken to a hotel called "The Palace". After a bit of clearing up, we were dropped off somewhere which was apparently just down the road from the Palace. We couldn't see it anywhere. Vietnam doesn't really cater for english-speaking tourists, and as a result we coulnd't read where we were in relation to anything! Luckily, the War Remnants Museum was within walking distance and Ben managed to get us there safely (crossing roads and all!) The Museum was cheap as chips to get into, a mere 15000 dong (around AU$1). It was formally known as the "Museum of American War Crimes", and displays many graphic stories and pictures of the effects Agent Orange and napalm bombs etc...There was even a display of human fetuses that had been deformed - a little too much for my eyes.
After checking into our new hotel (much, much better than the first hole we were stuck in), we decided to go to a shopping centre called Diamond Plaza. Wow. Wish we had millions of dollars to spend there! Very nice! We pretended to be able to afford the expensive bags and watches, but ended up going to the top level where the games and food were. Ben spotted pizza hut and there was no going back...A whole pizza later, we decided to head to the bowling alley and have abit of fun.
Lots more walking around followed, a few markets here and there but the day has ended and we have a very early morning tomorrow for our 12hour bus trip (NOT looking forward to it!). We have treated ourselves a little bit and booked a flight from Siem Reap to Bangkok to save ourselves another 8-10hours travel the following day. This also leaves a whole extra day in Bangkok to spend spend spend!
See you all very soon! Really looking forward to some good Auzzie food....
Lots of love to you all,
Nicci and Ben Over and Out! XOXO
