Whale Tours Baja by Mar y Adventuras -- Life in a beach camp
Back to the camp, where we got set up for the evening. Marylou and Jakee set up this trip, they asked everyone to bring a totem explaining why they were coming and what they hoped to get out of this trip. When Robert and I were packing, I came across my dolphin pen and decided that would be perfect and Robert brought his star buckle for a "stellar time". After the group shared, it was happy hour. The guys had fixed a huge soup tureen of margaritas and the party began!!!! .
Dinner that night was one of my favorites-----it was a fish stew made with fresh tuna, rice and salad. They made their rice by first browning the uncooked rice in the skillet, then adding the onions and garlic and then the water. It gave it a nutty flavor and was great! One thing about this group, was it was a singing group! One person would say something, and it would start someone else singing a song that started with that word! Some of the people in the group had great voices and was great fun. Singing and dancing the night away pleasantly loosened up by the margaritas!
The next morning everyone started getting up around 7:00, enjoying the sunrise and wandering down the the kitchen tent for fresh coffee. They also had a sink set up with warm water to wash face and hands. While on the subject, the shower setup was-----go in the bay and soap down and then to the shower tent where you rinse off. Problem was the bay was too cold to really soap up, so had to use more solar shower water than planned. Learned also to take one of the solar showers setting outside that was warm instead of the cold one inside!
Breakfast was chiliquiles and fruit. Miguel came and said we were going out whale watching. We set off in the two pangas and found the whales early on. We saw whales mating, takes three, one to support. It was amazing to watch. We also saw one whale breech about five times in a row!
Back for lunch which was carne stew with salad and a veggie dish. The veggies were chayote (type of squash), corn, and carrots in a sauce! Once again very delicious and wonderful tortillas to go along with it. Ater lunch Miguel told us it was time to go whale watching. You were also given the choice of staying behind and hiking or whatever you felt like doing. Robert and I always went out but some people did hike over to the Pacific side, walked the beach, or read or napped or relaxed. It was a very low key and pleasant place!
