(This program states I'm in Puerto Limon but I'm actually further down the coast in Puerto Viejo). So, on Sunday I had arranged to meet a Dutch girl, called Tamara who I am supposed to be travelling with in Panama, at the Caribe terminal in San Jose for the bus trip over to the Caribbean.
I've only met her briefly once before back over in Manuel Antonio. We got the bus out of San Jose and spent 4 hours getting over to the coast. Arrived in the dark (yuk)and found ourselves a place to stay right on the beach it would seem but we couldn't really tell as it was dark. We got one room with 3 beds and a million mosquitos so I actually used my mosquito net for the first time ever .... somewhat unsuccessfully as you can see from the photos !
Anyway, the next day we'd read that a nearby beach has really good snorkelling. Our beach in Puerto Viejo is a really good surfing beach apparently so we, rather foolishly, coaxed each other into hiring mountain bikes to ride to the next beach - 7 km apparently, but the road was flat and tarmacced so no problems then ..? Well, the road was flat and tarmacced, for about 200 yards out of town. Then it started to resemble the moon's surface. Oh my god it was a nightmare ! But, I'm proud of myself, we got to the beach and it was lovely, unfortunately the snorkelling hire place was shut. Typical ! So we just hung around and did a bit of sunbathing and put off the inevitable ride back. No photos of that beach as we thought we'd be in the water all the time and didn't want to leave our stuff on the beach.
After the day's exertions I have never been so pleased to see my mosquito inhabited bed !
