Palm Desert Drunks

We decided to venture out on a holiday weekend (very unlike us), because we were stressed and needed a vacation – especially after our Costa Rican “adventure”. Usually we’re on the go-go-go when we are somewhere but decided to just hang out and relax in Palm Desert. I DIDN’T PLAN A THING!!! Amazing.

We headed out from Orange County at about 4:30, it should have taken us 2 hours but ended up being 3 because of a little bit of traffic but because there was a car accident on the freeway when we had 30 miles to go we were trapped on the road for a while. Sucky. At least we were enjoying taking the new car out for a little road trip.

Upon recommendation from a friend we stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs Resort (www.desertspringsresort.com) – it was a lovely place and what we needed for sure since we hardly have time for a half hour of peace during our normal days working and all. After checking in at about 7:30 we were told that since they were booked they didn’t have any king bed rooms available but were kind to let us know we could check into a new room the next day. We had reservations to eat at the hotel’s Italian restaurant Tuscany’s. Since I have an event in a week that requires me not being plump, I had to limit my food – THAT SUCKED. We took an adorable boat in their hotel lake from the lobby to the restaurant. The food at Tuscany’s was amazing. I had a raspberry salad, an appetizer of prosciutto shrimp (dirty or not, I couldn’t live without shellfish), and ended with their amazing dessert trio where you could get a sampling of tiramisu, two chocolate cakes and two types of ice cream – their dessert is HEAVENLY!! The tiramisu was to die for and the mousse cake with the krispies is just the best. And their portions were perfect to not overeat. Dallas got the raspberry salad, risotto (one of the best ever), lobster ravioli (awesome chunks of lobster but the pasta was a bit tough) and their molten cake. I would love to come back here again for the food…

BUT NOT COME BACK FOR THE DRUNKS…. Where do I start…

We were eating our appetizers and a middle aged woman and her friend are seated diagonally from us, we’re angled in a way where it’s really easy to see them. One friend leaves for a few minutes and the other girl has her head down on the table for long enough for a person to come by and tap her shoulder to see if she is ok or needs any water – she can’t talk but nods her head, mind you already has water next to her. Friend comes back, a few minutes pass, friend gets up and starts asking employees for a baggie – her friend is going to be sick. Damn people and their alcohol. Anyway, friend walks around disappears, all the while sick lady has her napkin to her mouth. This is going on for a couple of minutes – let’s not forget HER TABLE IS NEXT TO THE FRONT DOOR…sick lady throws up into her napkin, quietly at least, but messy enough to be seen all over her face, table, chair and napkin.

All the while next to us there is an older couple having dinner. The older lady is SO DRUNK that you can hear every loud word she says and upon receiving her dinner of lamb chops, she MMMmmm moans after EVERY SINGLE BITE. In addition to her eyes half shut, her body swaying and sitting so tilted forward we thought her head was going to hit the table.

Welcome to Palm Desert. Where ladies can’t hold their liquor, like to be obnoxious and throw up on the tables.

BUT, the beds and pillows are comfortable, the mattress top and pillows are down – though I hate down where you can actually feel the feathers our pillows at home are the teeny feathers (feather fill or something). They have nice sized TV’s, though aspect ratio ends up terrible. We miss TV after cancelling our cable at home…

Not sure if you’ve noticed in our journeys but we love food!
