22hr 45 mins, that is how long it should have taken to get to Cancun. 42h 15mins is how long it took. After a long and uneventful flight from Bribane to LA I discovered that all the hype about LAX security is true. Dispite the extrordinarily long lines I did make it to my next flight on time. Then the real problems started. My flight to Dallas was delayed by 1hr 15mins. Coincidently this is the exact amount of time I had between flights. So just as I was landing, my next flight took off. What happened next was a bit of a shock.... I was promptly booked into the Sheraton in Arlington on AA account, my bags which were to take 1hr to arrive only took 1/2hr to get to me, and the shuttle bus to the hotel which was to take 1/2hr took only 5 mins to pick me up.
So I ended up sleeping in the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, got free room service and was happy in the knowledge that I was booked on a flight the next day.
So anyone would think that after being delayed I wouldn´t give up my seat on that flight.... wrong! The plane was overbooked, so the airline required 5 people to volunteer their seats in return for travel vouchers. After this was announced 3 times I final decided that my travel plans were flexible enough to wait 2 hr and gave up my seat. What they didn´t tell me at the time was, the next flight was fully booked and unless someone didn´t turn up I wouldn´t be on it! But I got lucky and got on the plane.
So I finally got to sunny Cancun... just on dusk, hopped a bus to Playa del Carmen. Ran for my life to catch the next ferry to Cozumel. And arrived at the most charming B&B I´ve ever seen.
Í´m finally in Mexico!!!
