The race continues… Today we traveled for countless hours across Northern Thailand, through Hill Tribe and Long Neck territory to reach the Asia’s 2nd largest illicit opiate area, the Golden Triangle. The triangle is made up of the confluence of the Ruka River and Mekong rivers which are the borders of three countries, Myanmar (Burmer), Laos and Thailand. We took a quick boat ride through Myanmar waters to Laos where we found life to be very different to their Thai neighbors. The first thing we noticed about Laos was how hot it is over here. Thailand was ok, but the 10m across the river makes such a difference. We got our Passport stamped, but I’m not sure how official the “I’m in Laos” stamp is. You could buy all kinds of crazy stuff, like Snake Whisky and a carton of Marlboroughs for only $6. Sagoi ne?. The one thing we didn’t find was Opium, although not such a bad thing as any possession of illegal drugs is chargeable with the death penalty, oh yeah, and we have no use for it. Anyway 10 more minuets here before we head back to Thailand. I’m beginning to miss Laos already.
