So I have been pretty lucky in the fact that I haven't gotten sick from the food in Bolivia. However, that doesn't mean that the food is good. So when we first got here, we were told that women tend to gain about 10lbs and men loose that amount. My first question was WHY? Well, reason why the weight gain is because the food is pure carbs. I spent a day with the family, and the next morning I felt like there was a rock in my stomach from all of the carbs that I ate. It was definitely weird. For breakfast I drink tea/coffee/hot chocoalate with bread. Lunch, is a pile of rice, a few potatoes and some meat to go with it. Dinner is maybe corn, rice, eggs and the ever present potato. Not only do I eat potatoes everyday, but different kinds and ways to cook them. My personal favorite was the french fry soup in a potato based stock.
The family I live with gets mad at me because I don't eat a lot. I can't help it. I feel like I have a rock in my stomach and I feel bloated after I eat with them.
Next time, I'll talk about my family.
