Tiger Temple!

Hello all and welcome back to our wacky SE Asia Adventure. Today, unlike every other day, we actually made the free breaky. Now i don't know what you would call this journal, but the breakfast was nothing to write home about...

After that, we headed off to explore Kanchanaburi. The town has a rich history with strong links to Australia. In 1944 during World War Two, the Japanese commissioned a railway to be built between the Thai and Burmese border. This was to be built by Prisoners of War, mainly from Australia, US, Britain and Holland, and also labourers from Thailand. The railway was bombed a few months after completion by the allies. Over 100,000 people lost their lives during the construction of the railway hence it being dubbed "The Death Railway."

We decided to visit the J.E.A.T.H Museum which has been set up to inform visitors about the construction of the bridge. It was more humourous than informing with ammusing translations, but there were a lot of cool photos and items from the time of the construction.

After this, we headed back to our hotel to rendezvous with our tour guide for the Tiger Temple. If the actual destination were to be a flop, i would have had a good time anyway as we rode all the way in the back of a ute through the Thai country-side coming within a few Kilometers of the Thai/Burma border. The temple is a real tourist trap, even by Thai standards. There was a line to get in, 300baht entry fee, and a 30min line just to get a photo with the Tigers. But it was all worth it in the end. Beautiful creatures. We also managed to get our hands on a few tiger teeth, which apparently are dropped by the tigers a few times through their lifespan. Lets see how we go with customs on that one...

Well, its nice to hear from all who have written. Hope to hear from you again soon. We have another day in Kanchanaburi tomorrow with Elephant Rides, Bamboo rafting and the Death Train all on the cards. Will tell you all about it tomorrow night.

Love you all,
Ben & Nic
Over and Out
xoxo
