When we first arrived at Entre de Amigos, we met some people who were getting ready to do the hike from Urique to Batopilis. They were going to be using pack mules and their guide was Roberto from Tres Amigos with offices in Creel and El Fuerte. There website is 3amigos and they provided us enough information that we decided to chance the drives ourselves to Batopilas, Urique and onward to El Fuerte. Later also found out that Tomas, who works at Entre de Amigos also leads hikes to Batopilas.
One of our last days at Entre de Amigos we met an interesting couple from the French speaking part of Belgium; Manu and Julie. They had just returned from an eight day round trip hike unguided from Urique to Batopilas and back!!! They told us of getting lost and meeting people along the trail who set them back on the right paths... The night we met them they were quite tired and we shared our curry chicken lentil dinner with them.
They shared a little bit of their story the first night. The route they were given to Batopilis was not quite clear, they got lost, were given a ride for awhile and then were befriended by some people who invited them to spend the night with them. They have been to Cuba and their comment was that these people were just generous to them and expected no money or anything in return.
It took them three days to get to Batopilis, two days there to relax, and then three days to return to Urique. The trip there and back were on different routes; they said the return was easier than the way there.
