From San Marcos, we took a quick lancha over to San Pedro, which had a very different feel to it. Here we found lots and lots of gringos mostly looking to have a good time, lots and lots of Spanish schools that didn't appeal to us as much as our own school in Xela (a disappointment because I was hoping to find a great school by the lake so I could swim and study every day!), and the general attitude of the Guatemaltecos we met was that young, drinking, smoking, thrill-seeking gringos had worn them out. I couldn't blame them, I was tired of hearing the whoops and hollers late into the night by the first night! We did get to meet up with our friend again and we three went on a great horseback ride over to a black-sand beach, which was a nice time. But I was happy to head back to Pana for a bit of shopping and then hop on the chicken bus back home. We are back in school, this time John is staying at the hostel Casa De Las Amigas across the street and I'm around the corner with another family this week but might move over into the hostel next week. We like our teachers and I feel my Spanish vocab growing by leaps and bounds. We are taking salsa lessons and have found this great vegetarian restuarant (El Alquimista) that sits in the middle of the organic garden that supplies it. We are starting to find the groove of studying, practicing, meeting new people and learning about our surroundings. And volunteer opportunities abound!
