Urique and Entre de Amigos-

We arrived in Urique around 4:00 pm and drove down the main street. There was a police vehicle blocking off the square to the left and we asked how to get to the river and they told us to go right.

Robert turned down the next left street I was sure was too narrow for our vehicle but we made it down it and turned down the road that followed along the River Urique. It is moving fairly fast. Will it come up a few more feet over the bulkhead and flood where we might camp?

We were driving along and saw a man and woman walking down the road--looked like they were gringos. Stopped and when they caught up with us asked them about Entre de Amigos, the place we were looking for in lieu of boondocking along the river like Keithr posted on Thorntree as possible if you did not stay at his place or his neighbors.

Lo and behold they were actually looking out for the place while the owner was gone. Bill and Molly and dog Hattie then continued to lead us down the rough riverside road to turnback for the place. The sign was hard to see from the road if you were not looking in the right direction otherwise, so we felt blessed to have encountered them

Inside the gate there are huge cactus along the driveway and overhanging trees, all hazards for our monster rig.

With a bit of back and forth and help from me and Bill, Robert finally parked our truck without tearing down the ancient cactus. One of the first people we saw as we were trying to park was Tyronne, the Aussie we had met in Carolina's Restuarant in Batopilas!

Bill showed us some of the features of the place. There is a shower room with hot showers, fueled by wood. There is a communal kitchen attached to the hostel rooms. It is a nice large room and very pleasant. There are lemon and grapefruit trees all around and huge cactus and other trees. Some of them are blooming so there are hummingbirds tempting me to get a fix on them with my binoculars! There is a garden with all sorts of vegetables growing in it. The people who actually own this grow wheat and make their own bread! We were told we were welcome to pick grapefruit, lemons and lettuce from the garden! What a treat!

The town of Urique has at least three hotels, several restarants and many small stores selling vegetables, breads, etc. They have at least two schools and other shops to go in. It was a very enjoyable place to stay for a period of days.

Our first night there was a wedding going on in town and we didn't really feel like walking there so enjoyed a hot shower, put our camper back to rights and set the boat out to dry. Driving on this bumpy roads does cause things to shift quite a bit but fortunately Robert found these fasteners that we have put on all doors that tend to come open including the refrigerator! We went up to the kitchen and fixed dinner and had a fun evening with Tyronne talking about travel. We also visited with one the of the "Three Amigos" Roberto who was going to be leading a group from Urique across to Batopilas.

The next day we pretty much relaxed and enjoyed the kitchen cooking ourselves a nice breakfast and lunch. After lunch I cooked up the chicken we had bought into chicken soup. Later in the afternoon, Bill, Molly, Robert and I walked into town to check things out. We bought a few more vegetables and walked around a bit. It is not a large town but does have several small stores for vegetables and other things.

We all decided to eat together--chicken soup with avocado and cheese, baked beets, garden fresh salad, and homemade bread and banana-walnut-chocolate cake. They also had margaritas with fresh lemons from the tree. It was a pleasant evening all around.
