Day 10 – Zip Lining Canopy Tours and New Years Eve

Ahh, almost done having to not wake up using my internal body clock. That is incredibly tough and tiring because you end up sleeping light in fear of sleeping through your activities! Today was the last day of our activities and we surely saved the best for last. Today was so much fun that I wish we did it sooner, so we could have done it twice! We did the Sky Trek Canopy Tours where you are zipping on a line from platform to platform. There were 11 zip lines total, what a way to end our trip! It was the closest experience to flying that I’ve ever had (never been skydiving / hangliding etc). I was going so fast that the wind was pulling tears out of my eyes. If you weren’t in the right position you could really compromise your speed or even start spinning around. Not sure what Dallas was doing but every time he would come in, he would start turning. He’s just too big!!

Following the Sky Trek, we did the Sky Walk which is a series of 6 suspension bridges over the canopy. It was all so lovely and a wonderful way to end our adventures in Costa Rica. Oh wait, we haven’t made the journey back yet!...ok ok.

We had an amazing lunch at Las Palmeras restaurant across from our hotel. Dallas *finally* had some tender meat. He’s had such bad luck with tough cuts of meat here it was getting to be really disappointing for him, I had my last sea bass…it’s always cooked so perfectly I don’t know why I can’t do that at home. Sigh. We went to a really cute bakery/restaurant next door - Dulce Marzo. Turns out it is owned by a gal names Lisa who is a transplant from Oregon in the US. She used to be an attorney but left the stressful, debt-full life that comes with living in the US. She’d only come in October and purchased the café from the original owner, a young gal of 26 who started the business at 24 and needed to release her commitments in order to live life a bit. Cookies, cake, coffee – my perfect place! She had a book exchange here which was wonderful because I had 2 books that I finished during this trip: Wicked and The Book of Lost Things. I traded it in for The Secret and The Emperor’s Children (which I probably will never read).

I was always against reading The Secret because it’s a new gimmicky book of a belief that has been around for a long time. This secret is one small chapter of one of my favorite books so the hype surrounding The Secret was something I couldn’t appreciate, though have always been curious about. Anyway, I believe that things come into your life when you need them to and this short book was perfect for what I needed it to be at the time, an easy read for a lazy afternoon. It’s the new year, new goals, we’re thinking positive for our future and this motivational book was just a nice reaffirmation of things we already knew but needed the reminder to take action on. I recommend it merely because I know most people won’t have time to read more than that on this topic.

We had our last dinner at Sophia’s which is the sister restaurant to Chimera. We decided to follow the lead of Chris from last night – he isn’t an “or” person, he’s an “and one – so if he is torn between things he’ll just get them both. Well, we had 3 appetizers including dinner and drinks and sadly in the end didn’t have room for dessert. My mistake. We were happy nonetheless and have learned my lesson on that!

Today is New Years Eve and I’ve spent most of the day reading and packing. It’s bittersweet though, I really want to go home but I really wish I could stay longer and maybe hit up the beach. That was surely a planning mistake on our part it would have been a nice relaxing finish to what was a truly adventurous trip. We stayed awake long enough to see some fireworks but were asleep for the big turn. Oh well, Christmas and New Years in Costa Rica – I’m not complaining.
