The forecast is for sunshine the rest of the week, and today started the string. We didn’t see a cloud all day, which began with a walk from the hotel along and over the Tiber, up a designer shop street to the Spanish Steps, through Piazza Barberini and finally to Termini Station. We canceled our train ticket to Venice there, as we’ve decided to head back to Honolulu a week early. Having once seen what Venice is like when tens of thousands of Carnivale revelers descend on the city, we’ve decided to take a pass and head back to Hawaii’s 80-something temperatures. Hey – we have thinned-out blood, OK?
Figuring out the metro system was easy, since it’s so similar to the Paris metro. We took the metro from Termini Station to the Colosseum, where we bought each of us a Roma Pass, which allows quicker entry into the major attractions, as well as provides free entry to the first two sites visited using the pass. It’s a good buy, especially since pass holders can bypass the ticket lines at the various sites. The wind was really bone-chilling as it blew through the Colosseum’s arches – once again convincing us that our future travels will be made in the warmer months.
We recommend online browsing among the many websites (thousands?) that describe the Colosseum and what went on there nearly two thousand years ago. Hope you enjoy today’s photographs of the place.
