Western Kenya is one of the most unique places in Kenya. Unlike the regions near Nairobi or Mombasa the regions has no well established tourism base. This makes it attractive to those who enjoy adventure as a whole world will be waiting for you to discover.
Some of the interesting sites in Western Kenya include Kisumu Museum, Ruma National Park near Homa Bay. Simbi Nyaima and Thim Lich Ohinga. A visit to the region will also serve as an eye opener to the African way of life. Most of the resident lead a humble peasant life but are very welcoming to foreigners.
For those interested in ethnology, the people who live around lake Victoria, the Luo, Luhya and Gusii, Kuria do form an interesting as well a rich mix of people. With an exception of the Luo who are of nilo-hamitic origin, the remaining three constitute the bantu which is the majority ethnic group in Africa.
