Hong Kong Visit

The poor weather seems to be following us as the locals told us that three days ago the weather changed from sunny to cold - but it has not mattered much as the Hotel Mandarin Oriental is excellent - lovely rooms, people and food. The lads also had their hair cust by the barber in the hotel and they more than passed Sam's trendy criteria.

Again we have been pleased with how friendly everyone is and when you are lost the locals try and help - however the hotel gave us simple directions on a card in Chinese and we have needed these as not everyone speaks English.

Hong Kong reminds you of one big shopping centre - it is building after building and a shoppers haven. However when you travel around you are surprised by greenery and open spaces at the other side of the HK Island. Kowloon across the bay is just a mad place and the ferry that takes you across costs all of 8 HK dollar - 1 euro each. Taxis are also extremely cheep but not cheerful - however some are.

We visited the only temple on HK island, we did the Peak and went up there in a tram - Nigel was not too happy standing at the very top overlooking HK but the rest of us took photos.

The light show from Kowloon is impressive if somewhat overly commercial but something you have to see and we are back to Kowloon tonight to buy all the tacky "made in HK" stuff.

So far we have not visited the big budda which is about 40 mins away on a far off island and are not sure if we will have time tomorrow, but we have done enough here in Hong Kong and I think 3 days is definately enought time. One thing you would not tire of is the number and quality of the shopping nor the incredible food.
