Xmas Period...

2007-12-24, Hong Kong, Hong Kong

24th: Xmas eve arrived pretty quickly without me really noticing... Only in the supermarkets did you ever really get a feeling that xmas was arriving but to celebrate the period i treated myself to a new camera... i was pretty lazy on buying it though, an aussie had spent a week searching up and down for the cheapest deal in hong Kong for a camera he really wanted, in the end i just went to the shop that he had found the best deal and just asked for him to make it two! sound! happy days! 'Job Done' with miminal effort... god i hate shopping!

Anyway after such a 'stressful' shop, we ended up in the pub as it was just past 'crazy hour' in the Hong Kong pubs, where you get booze at a 1/3 the price you would if you went out at night, so a few pints were sunk near the red light district... the beer was even cheaper in some of the bars there but there just had to be a catch!!!

As we still had camera's in hand we headed back to the great common room for beers and jokes... a monopoly of bad horse jokes were flying round, 'santa's got a full sack' jokes but it was all good banter... we stayed once again for the token 11pm kick out and rendition of happy birthday and headed once again to Lang Kwai Fong... we were back in Bar George for the midnight countdown and i have never seen a celebration for the 'birth of jesus' like it, i've heard quieter new year chants! Everyone was hugging, kissing, shouting, setting off party poppers... bit OTT to be honest but made for a good atmosphere!

Strangest part of the night was when i was propostioned by a prostitute from the philipines... straight out, no conversation... she grabs my hand and says... 'i sleep with you'... bloody hell! no thanks love!

25th: Was a Hangover day... which is not a bad way of getting through the 25th.... before i knew it i was on root to Schenzen and was checked into my Hostel, the Wangfat/Hong Kong hostel/block of flats had gone... Hong Kong was fun, bit expensive for a backpacker and a bit too business for my liking but still enjoyed it a lot... you could spend a week there and not get to see everything!
