Update: It’s still winter in Provence. There have been no weather turnabouts in the past 24 hours, so the drizzle and “brisk” temperatures we experienced during our market-day visit to Lourmarin today continued the string of dark and damp days. As usual, we were the only ones discretely snapping photographs; we may be the only tourists here, or at least the only ones who act like tourists.
Friday is open market day in Lourmarin, but the weather and the season had to affect the turnout. Still, local residents were greeting one another with handshakes and cheek pecks everywhere, including the little café where we stopped for coffee. The place was nearly empty in mid-morning but was jammed with friends and acquaintances by 11 a.m.
Back on the street, the village’s dogs provided comic relief to the rain, which intensified, so we headed back to La Jassine for another of Lennie’s made-from-this-‘n-that lunch creations. Doug napped the afternoon away while Lennie worked on her novel, of which one day it may be said was written in "sunny Provence." After all, it IS fiction.
